Larry Royce had been the host of Sanctuary the bluegrass gospel show on the Word FM radio network since January 1995 to July 2009.  The show can now be heard on line at: www.sanctuarybluegrass.com anytime, also Sunday evenings on www.dicksaylor.com from 5-8 PM ET  and at: www.bluegrassmuseum.com from noon to 3:00 PM ET on the International Bluegrass Music Museum’s web site.

Sanctuary airs a mix of traditional and contemporary bluegrass gospel from Bill Monroe through Nickel Creek and beyond.  Many weeks a new gospel release will be featured, playing 8-10 songs throughout the show from that CD.

A one-hour version of Sanctuary was syndicated to 20 plus stations from Alaska to Florida from 1998 to 2007.

Larry also plays guitar and mandolin with Joe Hesh and Caleb on a regular basis, plus jams with friends in the Lehigh Valley and Northumberland County.  He still plays occasionally with the Earth Riders, a group of friends that have been playing together since 1982.

When Larry lived in Washington D.C. during the early to mid 70’s, he was exposed to bluegrass music by attending shows at the Birchmere featuring The Seldom Scene, The Country Gentlemen, Boone Creek, The New Grass Revival, and many more, and listening to WAMU-FM from American University.  His first album was by Old and In The Way, and he thanks Jerry Garcia for converting him to bluegrass.  Favorite bands are The Seldom Scene, anything by Tony Rice and Peter Rowan, Doyle Lawson, The Issacs, The Forbes Family, The Dillards, Rhonda Vincent, Del McCoury, and many more.

He was inspired by the bluegrass gospel music aired on WAMU’s Stained Glass Bluegrass, and believes that listening to the message in the music directed him to become a Christian.

His hope and prayer is that everyone who tunes in will be offered hope and encouragement and be entertained by the music on Sanctuary.
